Dear Internet Visitor:
Welcome to Thomas Edison Elementary School, a truly special place. Edison lies in the
heart of a wonderful residential community in Burbank, California, and serves about 560
children, kindergarten through fifth grade. All kindergarten through third grade classes
enjoy a student/teacher ratio of 20:1. In addition, first and second grade classes have a
divided opening so that smaller groups can be given a solid foundation in reading. Our
fifty-year-old beautifully modernized campus also houses a state preschool and two after
school childcare programs.
Edison is a California Distinguished School and has a reputation for excellent academic
preparation and unique enrichment opportunities for children. A strong and caring staff
provides a rigorous standards-based curriculum, a variety of fine arts experiences, and a
well-developed character education program to enable Edison students to be successful
through high school and beyond. A vast array of parent volunteers support the teaching
staff in many different ways: preparing materials, tutoring, facilitating small group
activities, and planning and organizing special events. The business community also
provides broad support, ranging from Disney Reading Tutors through Literature and Career
Week activities.
Edison students are well-behaved and demonstrate respect for each other and for the adults
who are assisting them on their educational journey. Many special learning opportunities
are available for Edison students: English Language Development, Gifted and Talented, and
Special Education programs, formal music instruction for every student, after school
chorus, Outdoor Science School, Student Council, computer lab, Science Olympiad, and
Chess, Computer and Library Clubs.
We love having visitors! Youre invited to come and see what an exemplary school is
all about. |
